KAMPALA, UGANDA - Uganda is not well prepared to begin exploring oil, according to a report released recently. “There is still more needed to be done,” said Dr. Zac Niringiye, the chairperson of the National Governing Council of the Uganda Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) national plan.
He was speaking at a workshop of the First Annual Progress Report on the implementation of APRM.
It was also noted that there has not been enough sensitization of the public concerning oil exploration.
“There is anxiety over the management of oil revenues. This is worsened by limited public awareness and engagement in the debate on policies and legislation on oil and gas,” said Frank Muhereza, a lead consultant.
He said that according to their findings, some people in the country did not know whether there was even a policy on gas and oil.
The findings also indicated that more needed to be done in endorsement, implementation and standardisation.
