Transformation of Africa Union postponed for January - Chicoty
28 July 2010, ANGOP
Luanda – The debate about the upgrading of the Africa Union into the "Federal Government of the African Union" has been postponed for January 2011, the Angolan secretary of State for External Relations, George Chicoty, said Tuesday.
He was addressing the press on his return from Kampala (Uganda) where he attended the 15th summit of the Africa Union with the Angolan delegation headed by president José Eduardo dos Santos.
He said that during the discussions of the transformation of the Africa Union into the United States of Africa some differences arose because some member states wanted the transformation now without bearing in mind the position of other countries backing a gradual transformation.
The Kampala summit held under the motto "child and maternal health and the Africa's development" gathered 40 African heads of State and Government, including the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-Moon.
