18 October 2012, Ghana News Agency
Nkoranza (B/A), Oct. 18, GNA – Professor S.K.B. Asante,
Chairman of the National African Peer Review Mechanism (NAPRM) Governing
Council, has said the sustainability of
peace in the country was the responsibility of every Ghanaian.
He appealed to Ghanaians to be circumspect in their
utterances so that Election 2012 we would be free, fair and peaceful.
Professor Asante was addressing the Nkoranza South
Municipal Assembly at a day’s workshop organised by the Assembly’s APRM
Governing Council Oversight Committee on Tuesday.
The workshop was to validate a Draft Report of the APRM
Governing Council’s survey conducted on
the Governance of the Nkoranza South District Assembly for its leadership know
the concerns of the people and how best to address them for improvement.
Prof. Asante said the APRM had empowered Ghanaians to
express their views about the governance process and that had prompted those in
authority to identify their shortfalls and perform to expectation.
He said activities of the Council were non-partisan but
interested in good governance and efficient service delivery and "not on blame
games or finger pointing”.
"We should be proud of ourselves in taking part in the
decision-making process of the country without fear or intimidation”, Prof.
Asante and added "We should allow such good practices to prevail at all places
towards the sustainability of the peace Ghana is enjoying”.
Mr. Paul Baffoe-Ansah, Chairman of the Nkoranza South
District APRM-Governing Council Oversight Committee, said even though residents
of communities in the municipality acknowledged improvement in education,
health, water and sanitation facilities, "lack of employment for the youth
remains a challenge for the Assembly”.
He added the people were appreciative of the security the
police was providing to combat crime in the communities.
Mr. Baffoe-Ansah said the Draft Report revealed that some
parents shirked their responsibilities and blamed the situation of some
children of school-going-age roaming about in town during school hours on the
irresponsibility of their parents.
In an address read on his behalf, the Nkoranza
South District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum commended the
Council’s Oversight Committee for their voluntary services towards the
development of the Municipality.
