AfriMAP presents assessment of APRM to the UN
January 2008
In January 2008, Bronwen Manby, AfriMAP senior programme adviser, presented a background paper on the African Peer Review Mechanism and on the OECD-UNECA mutual review of development effectiveness in the context of NEPAD to the expert task force of the UN Working Group on the Right to Development. The Fourth session of the High-Level Task Force on the Implementation of the Right to Development was held at the UN headquarters in Geneva, and was also addressed by experts on the EU-ACP Cotonou Agreement and on the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness. Dr Bernard Kouassi, director of the APRM Secretariat in South Africa, also attended the session and responded to the points made by AfriMAP in its assessment. The report of the high level task force to the UN Working Group on the session included recommendations on the strengthening of the APRM as well as for amending the right-to-development criteria for evaluating development partnerships.
