Nairobi (Kenya Human Rights Commission)
Ms. Wanyeki is a political scientist who works on development communications, gender and human rights and has published in these areas. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), a national, non-governmental organization (NGO) working towards the enjoyment of all human rights by all Kenyans through research, advocacy and civic action. She previously served, for seven years, as the Executive Director of the African Women's Development and Communication Network (FEMNET), a pan-African membership organization working towards the development, equality and other human rights of African women through advocacy at the regional and international levels, training on gender analysis and mainstreaming and communications. She serves in a voluntary capacity on several African and other organizations including: the African Leadership Centre (ALC) and African women's fellowship programme on peace and security of the Conflict, Security and Development Group (CSDG) of King's College London; the Forum International de Montreal (FIM); the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) in Nairobi; and the Afrimap and Justice Initiative-Africa of the Open Society Initiative (OSI) in Johannesburg and Abuja respectively. She also writes the weekly Kenyan column for the East African, the sub-regional weekly of the Nation Media Group (NMG) in Nairobi. |
